A storage label should describe the contents in words you will recognize months later. Use a short category, then add one or two details if the box contains several related items. A label such as winter scarves is easier to understand than a vague reminder such as miscellaneous.
Place labels where they remain visible when boxes are stacked. If the contents change often, choose a label that can be replaced without covering older writing. Keeping a simple list inside a large box can help when the outside label cannot include everything.
During a tidy-up, open any box whose description no longer feels accurate. Move items into useful groups and update the label at the same time. Clear descriptions work best when they match what is actually stored.
